Hi there! My name is Oleksandr Petrenko and you’re reading my blog now. Three tags about me: primate, nonconformist, believer in ability of homo sapiens to overcome any difficulties.

I’ve graduated from Odessa National Medical University and now I am working as a PhD student / Predoctoral Fellow. I am affiliated with such amazing institutions as Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Rare and Undiagnosed Diseases, Research Center for Molecular Medicine of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and Medical University of Vienna.

After graduation I worked in a private human reproduction center: initially in the IVF lab, then I joined the management team of the center.

After it I earned an experience in Odesa Specialized Center for Medical Genetics. Genetics itself and genetic diseases are the topics of interest to me.

My scientific interests are: genetic diseases, especially mitochondrial diseases, rare diseases, tumor cell metabolism, developmental biology, cell pathology. I wish to contribute these fields, using genomics and bioinformatics, gene engineering, cell and animal studies.

Together with my colleagues in Ukraine, I am working on the project Genomics UA
